Getting Ready Again

It's almost time for our December trip, and things are off to a most interesting start!

First, I ran into trouble getting off work. We are implementing a new system, and I was told I couldn't leave until all grading is in on December 17. So instead of an early December departure and 3-4 weeks in Uganda, I will leave much later and I must return in early January.

Then, we found that no one wanted to be away from families over Christmas. I am facing some health challenges and Lisa doesn't want me to travel alone this year, so she decided to come with me. She has never been to Uganda at Christmas. Like everyone else (including me!) she would rather be home for Christmas. But we have shoes to buy and deliver, and a LOT of kids to see.

Now we are dealing with a whole new issue. Last week, I learned that I must have gall bladder surgery. It is scheduled for Tuesday. The doctor says I will need two weeks to heal, and that is exactly how long I have between surgery and flight! So pray for me! If the surgery can be done laparoscopically , I should be okay. If not, we have a problem!

If you've followed our earlier trips, you know it's never easy getting over there. Something ALWAYS comes up. It seems that there's more this time than usual though. There must be important things to do this year!
